Guiding the Journey to Net Zero

The journey to net zero is one with many challenges, as many steps still need to be taken by all sections of society; from the government to businesses and the general public.

To reach the government target by 2050, many businesses now place an emphasis on sustainability to streamline this transition and make way for a healthier, greener world.

The government’s role in incentivising the use of renewables and making them more accessible and cost-effective is imperative for reaching net zero by 2050. The UK has begun to take the necessary course of action that showcases positive change to aid this journey. However, more needs to be done to reach this goal.

These are some of the topics discussed in Executive TV’s latest programme “Guiding the Journey to Net Zero” featuring discussions from leading companies within the industry.

ClearVue provide net zero consulting services and new energy management technologies.

MEPS Consulting provide sustainable engineering solutions across the built environment.

Evora Global offer sustainability, net zero and ESG expertise in real estate and infrastructure.

Hubb.Pro offer scenario evaluation for different properties to provide more sustainable solutions.

“Guiding the Journey to Net Zero” will be first broadcast on SKY Digital 181 on Sunday 30th July at 10:00 A.M. and then again on Sunday 20th August at 10:00 A.M.

After the initial broadcast, the programme will be available at http://www.executivetv.org/ with the rest of our digital archive.

Industrial Sustainability

The growing concern around environmental issues such as the climate crises, pollution of both land and our oceans is presenting challenges both for businesses and UK Industry as a whole.

Companies are facing pressures both from within and externally to rapidly adopt greener approaches to their working practices – such as reducing their carbon footprint, recycling and using biodegradable materials.

This process is throwing up some difficult challenges. However well meaning, businesses must remain competitive and turn a profit or face bankruptcy. Similarly, many in industry feel that government targets and regulations will be difficult to achieve in the timeframe given.

At the same time, industry is also having to address other challenges – such as difficulties with resources, the retention and recruitment of young staff, and the crises in Europe forcing up energy costs.

There are many positive solutions to these issues, such as advances in battery storage, the concept of circular economies, the use of renewable energies such as solar and wind power, and the possibilities of the use of hydrogen as a clean source of energy for industry and transportation.

Many employers are also launching apprenticeship programmes. These schemes offer the benefits of a paid job where the employee gains valuable experiences alongside classroom study. These can benefit employers by providing the right skills needed, and helping with bringing in young people to industry, solving issues around the lack of new talent coming in to replace older staff.

These issues are the subject of Executive TV’s latest programme: “Industrial Sustainability” with expert views and discussion from a number of key industry figures. Featured in the programme are:

Pitreavie Packaging offer an extensive range of innovative packaging solutions, from design through to manufacture. Pitreavie is home to some of the most experienced professionals in the packaging industry, and offer a high level of service, knowledge and customer care.

Wagner Renewables are a leading distributor of renewable energy equipment, specialising in solar PV, battery storage and electric vehicle charging. Wagner have over 8 years’ experience and use their wealth of knowledge to supply high quality products to the UK and overseas.

BGB develop, design and manufacture engineering solutions. They provide engineering expertise across a range of industries, such as wind turbines, agriculture and construction. They aim to connect, inspire and work closely with their customers to achieve shared success.

‘Industrial Sustainability’ will be first broadcast on our usual channel SKY Digital 181 on Sunday 5th February at 10:30 (am), and then again on Sunday  5th March 10:30 (am) on SKY digital channel 181.

After the initial broadcast, the programme will be available at http://www.executivetv.org/ with the rest of our digital archive.

Universities and Industry Documentaries

Last Saturday we interviewed leading Motorsport figures at Bolton Universities Centre for Advanced Precision Engineering (CAPE). An array of high-end motorcars was on display at the open-day for this innovative centre.  Car 2We are filming a series of documentaries exploring how Universities partner with prominent industry bodies to improve the employability of their students. Engineering students at Bolton University work alongside experts from RLR Motorsport and Ginetta in the classroom, race-track and workshop.

Bolton is the first UK University to have an in-house, fully-functioning race team on campus. Providing students with facilities like these goes a long way to ensure they have the hands-on experience to overcome the demands of this industry. We spoke to one second year engineering student who said that these facilities “offer a head-start on other engineering courses”.

Engineering is a demanding, pressurised career where mistakes can cost lives. We asked Mike Simpson, Chief Race Driver at Ginetta, about the importance of centres like these to train the next generation of engineering talent.

Throughout this open-day we sensed a real excitement among the students, engineers and race drivers about this centre. Each interviewee clearly believed that partnerships between University and industry are extremely beneficial to all concerned. Equipping students with the best experience and training helps to turn them into valuable engineers who will sustain and develop the industry.

We are looking for other University courses with similar successful partnerships with industry to feature on this series. Please email us at info@collaborativemedia.co.uk if you would like more information about appearing on this series.
